In 1914, Alexander C. Graw purchased The South Florida Banner from Rev. Joseph A. Kahl and changed the newspaper’s name to The Homestead Enterprise.  Alexander and his son, LaMonte, were influential figures in the early history of Homestead.  In 1931, the economic downturn during the Great Depression forced Graw to sell The Homestead Enterprise to Ben Archer.  Archer had established a second Homestead newspaper, The Homestead Leader, in 1923.  After he acquiring The Homestead Enterprise, he changed the name of the paper to The Leader-Enterprise.
